 See you there!

Experience a celebration of the music of the Christian faith led by a 400 voice choir, brass, and the Lay Family organ in the magnificent Meyerson Symphony Center in Downtown Dallas.

Choirs from twenty-six churches in North and East Texas will join with voices in the congregation in the singing of hymns and spiritual songs that continue to inspire generations of Christians.  Be renewed by the stirring music of the faith including the works of this year’s honoree and conductor, Bob Chilcott.

Bob Chilcott, one of the most widely performed choral composers in the world, has been described by The Observer as “a contemporary hero of British Choral Music.”  Mr. Chilcott has composed sacred and secular repertoire for both adults and children.  His compositions vary from large-scale, multi-movement works to anthems of a few pages.  In addition to a successful career as a composer, Mr. Chilcott has performed professionally as a singer and conductor.  He was a tenor with the King’s Singers for many years, conductor of the chorus of the Royal College of Music from 1997 until 2004, and, since 2002, Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Singers.  He has conducted choirs throughout the U.S., Canada, Korea, Iceland, and Europe.

His compositions and conducting are well known in Texas churches and schools, and numerous  commissions have resulted.  The anthem, Morning Has Broken, sung in tonight’s Festival, was commissioned by Marvin Memorial United Methodist Church, Tyler, Texas, whose choir is participating in our Festival Choir.  Chilcott’s Requiem, a composition that has become popular worldwide, had its premiere U.S. performance in 2010 at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, Dallas, whose choir is also participating in the Festival Choir.

The Festival program features a representative group of Mr. Chilcott’s sacred anthems.  Church Music Institute is pleased to honor Bob Chilcott for his worthy contribution to the choral arts, specifically in the area of church music, as a composer and conductor of sacred music that is spiritually and beautifully uplifting for Christian worship.
