Offered from 9.30-noon\, and conveniently scheduled prior to the ALCM conference to allow attendance at both events\, participants will learn techniques for planning worship utilizing unique\, ecumenical liturgical templates developed for six of the major festivals of the liturgical year. This workshop is designed for busy church musicians who want to find excellent music quickly. To that end\, starting with All Saints\, participants will be guided by CMI staff Dr Charlotte Kroeker\, Dr. Robert Mann\, and Benjamin Kolodziej\, through a process for sensitively and thoughtfully choosing service music—choral\, organ\, and piano—utilizing online resources\, denominational publications\, and CMI’s own online library of 18\,000 choral and 12\,000 organ titles. This workshop will benefit musicians serving all sizes of churches\, offering them practical ideas on hymn selection\, psalmody\, creative use of the hymnal\, and suggestions for communion music. This session\, along with a hymn festival at Trinity Episcopal Church\, 147 N.W. 19th Avenue\, the evening prior\, will constitute CMI’s annual summer workshop in Portland normally held in August. The workshop is offered for $25 to members of CMI\, AGO\, ACDA\, and ALCM\, and $50 for others. This workshop will be held in the Fine Arts Center. \n \nParticipants are invited to consider staying for the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians conference immediately following: \n \nParticipants in the ALCM summer conference will consider the central things of Lutheran worship\, the ways in which shared song and musical accompaniment can reveal or obscure these central things\, and the many musical practices that support simplicity and beauty – whether one serves in a small town or a sprawling metropolis. There will be ample time for reflection\, common worship\, reviewing new music\, and practicing together the art of doing things uncommonly well. \nClick here to print off a form to mail.  \n***For any group registrations of 3 or more from the same church\, deduct 15% from the total due! Please send a separate registration form for each person. \n  URL:https://www.churchmusicinstitute.org/event/planning-through-the-church-year-thinking-liturgically-and-musically-2/ LOCATION:Concordia University Portland\, 2811 NE Holman St\, Portland\, OR\, 97211\, United States ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.churchmusicinstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/PortlandWorkshop2.jpg END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
