Rev. Kathryn Johnson – Lent: Borrowing the Language of Bach’s Passion-the Organ Chorales
February 11, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am CST
PLANNING LENT WITH MUSIC, ART AND POETRY
Utilizing the format of a Tenebrae service, Kathryn Johnson will continue her series “What Language Shall I Borrow?” on Feb. 11 – lifting again, especially appropriately in the coming Lenten season, this text from the hymn “O Sacred Head, Now Wounded,” to suggest that we can enrich our worship by calling upon the riches of not only the language of music but the other arts as well. Rev. John Thornburg’s poetic reflections on Bach’s seven Passion Chorales from the Orgelbüchlein will complement suggestions about utilizing some or all of these chorale preludes, as well as the sung chorales themselves as a cornerstone of worship during Lent. And the addition of classic and contemporary visual art suggestions adds to the impact of the languages we can borrow “to thank thee, dearest friend, for this thy dying sorrow, thy pity without end”!
This event is online only. If you cannot attend, the event is recorded for future viewing by registered attendees. Registration closes Friday, February 10 at noon.
